He is also the recipient of Honorary Doctor of Divinity degrees from United Theological Seminary, Monroe, Louisiana and Carver Bible College, Atlanta, Georgia.

He demonstrated his love for the church, the community and Christian people everywhere with his overwhelming involvement in the following activities and organizational affiliations: former President, Congress of Christian Education of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc.; former President, Southern Region, Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc.; former Member, Publishing Board, Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc.; former member, National Budget Committee, Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc. former President, Congress of Christian Education of the New Era Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia; former President, Metropolitan Atlanta Baptist Ministers Union, Inc.; member-treasurer, Board of Directors, Morehouse School of Religion; Board of Trustees, Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC); former board member, Equal Opportunities, Atlanta, Georgia; former President, Atlanta Chapter, SCLC and member, National Board of Directors of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC); original member, Atlanta Leader of Operation Bread Basket of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC); former co-chairman, metro Atlanta Summit Leadership Congress; first President, Frederick Douglass High School Parent Teachers Association (PTA), Atlanta, Georgia; probation officer, Atlanta Juvenile Court and original member, Police Review Board, City of Atlanta.

As a community giant and a servant of almighty God, The Reverend Dr. Creecy, Sr. served in numerous other positions of trust and leadership in the metro Atlanta Fulton County and Fayette County communities. This preaching giant constantly ascended to pulpits and mounted platforms of churches and universities across America. His fraternal affiliations with the International Theological Honor Society of Theta Phi, the Masons, the Elks and his beloved, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. were an intrinsic part of his awesome and busy life. Since his call into the Gospel Ministry, he served in the following capacities: Student Assistant Pastor, Greater Tulane Baptist Church, New Orleans, Louisiana; Guidance Director, Central High School, Mobile, Alabama; Secretary-Treasurer, Laborers’ Local Number 70, AFL-CIO, Mobile, Alabama; Pastor In Charge, Stone Street Missionary Baptist Church, Mobile, Alabama; Pastor, Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, Morgan City, Louisiana; Pastor, First Baptist Church, Dothan, Alabama; Pastor, Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Atlanta, Georgia; Administrator, Atlanta Religious Mobilization Against Crime (ARMAC), the Mayor’s Office, City of Atlanta. The Reverend Dr. Creecy, Sr. was married to the beautiful and devoted Marguerite Portis of Mobile, Alabama, with whom he enjoyed a magnificent love/partnership-relationship for nearly 60 years! He is the proud father of Dr. Doris Creecy-Waters, The Reverend Dr. Howard W. Creecy, Jr. (wife, Lady Yolanda), The Reverend Gardner C. Creecy and Ms. Candace Creecy. The joys of his life were his three grandchildren: William, Teresa, and Kennedy. Most dear to his heart was his love for the people of The Olivet Church! As one who built his life on the Bible, the Church and the love for his family, friends and all people and not on things, he will always be remembered because of the legacy he has etched on our hearts!

On a beautiful Thursday afternon, February 28, 2008, The Reverend Dr. Howard W. Creecy Sr.’s, Lord said unto him, “Well done thou good and faithful servant: Thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler of many things: enter thou into the joy of thou Lord!”
